The largest cultural commission underway in Northern Ireland in early 2008 renovated the town hall and arts complex (The Braid) and created a new museum to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Ballymena Borough. The complex has a three-story atrium with the "Patterns of History" wall; the museum has a 24-metre context-of-history timeline that places Mid-Antrim events within the wider scope of Northern Irish, U.K., and European history. Along with a core collections and learning interactives, it presents the region's historical/political conflicts from both Nationalist and Unionist perspectives.
